01:27 - Bathroom remodel
Well I sat down with Carol and we planned out how we want to remodel the bathroom. I built a scale model in Lightwave and rendered it so we could play with colors styles etc. Here is the final product. You can't see it very well in the render but we are going to do 1" x 1" blue frosted glass tiles in the shower. The floor is a slate tile with a "bath mat" in front of the tub and sink that is polished river stones. Now I just have to get everything ordered asap before my dad comes to help in two weeks. The linen closet in the foreground I am going to build but probably won't get to it while he is here.

*please excuse the crudity of this model*

14:47 - Meme I guess
I am so starving from comments that I actually enjoy the bots who leave me nasty replies. So I guess the best way to get comments is to ask for information perhaps it is a meme.

Give me your favorite recipe, or if you don't cook tell me the favorite dish you like to eat when you go out.

08:54 - The day of hell
Yesterday started out okay I got some good work done. Then around lunch time things seemed to take a turn for the worse. Got a call from Carol that the tire on the van was flat. She was going to take a bus home and I would change the tire when I got home. Then we had a meeting where it was decided that we were going to slip our date a couple of weeks. Mind you, this was not my fault I am going to be done on-time. I feel sorry for my boss who has to take the hit for this. So anyway I get home and the long awaited part for my broken refrigerator arrived.

Last weekend the fridge died I read on-line that it is most likely the compressor or the $11 start/overload relay. I decided to buy the $11 part to rule it out. Though I couldn't justify spending the extra $10 shipping on a part that a) might not be needed and b) would mean that shipping was more then the part itself. So I got USPS ground which I didn't think would take more than a couple days. It took 8 days. So we have been living without a fridge for two weeks this saturday. I installed the new relay and no difference same problem. So it is looking more like the compressor is toast and we will need a new fridge. This one is only 3 years old but I bought it at a scratch and dent place so I am sure the warrenty has expired.

After that set back I went to change the tire on the van. I arrive and pull the tire iron to learn that it is badly warped so that it won't loosed the bolt for the spare tire. Lucky for me the Honda has the same sized tire iron so I use it to get the spare out from under the van. Only the spare is totally flat. I try to pump it up with the small road compressor in the van and it is either not working or taking too long so we drive to a gas station and fill it up. I come back and try to remove the nuts on the tire. I have no problem with 3 of them but two of them won't budge. I jump on the tire iron to try to get them to come loose and end up bending the tire iron! Oh and I neglected to mention that I am doing this all in the worst rain I have seen in Seattle for years. So I am totally wet. We drive back home I get some tools and some WD-40, grab some fast food (it is like 8:30 now) and drive back up. I manage to pop them off and get the spare on. I go home and throw my soaking clothes in the dryer have a beer watch some lost and go to bed.

Phew what a day.

09:58 - Whoa where has Aaron been?
Everywhere really. It has been a long time. First the local update. Tonight I am going plant some clover in my yard. It is has been a long process of digging up everything living in my backyard covering everything with yards of compost tilling it all and the end is in sight. Tonight I am going to plant some seeds to get a something new and green to counter the brown and black dirt that is everywhere. I am excitied I just hope it does well.

Next is to finish ella's playhouse. I should be able to cut the panels and paint them this weekend to be installed next week.

I have been uber busy with work recently code complete is next friday. It is going to be tough to get it all done. I completely changed my shift this milestone using test driven development all of my unit tests cover about 90% of the code. It has become invaluable to making changes quickly and I hope the person who inherits my code will thank me for it.

I haven't had any time to work on things because during the week I have been working and weekend have been spent on various activities. Last weekend we did our annual trip to the Jenne Farm for some easy living. The weekend before that Fred and I did a WA state big birding day and ended up with 123 species. Weekend before that I drove down to Vancouver WA for superflashgo's graduation party. And before that was the scouting mission for the big day. And I believe the weekend before that was my CO trip. So that is a solid month and a half of no weekends. I figured the only way I would get any anything do is to do it after work and with the days getting longer that is actually possible.

The lack of time to work when I get home has also meant I have to be more effcient at work. Better planning better coding and all in all better performance. I have already produced a lot but there is still a lot more to do. Better get to it.

But first an Ella update she is learning more and more everyday. New words, new mannerisms, she knows her ABC's and can count to 10 if the mood strikes her right. It astounds me this "word explosion" she is very expressive both we objects and feelings even abstract concepts. It is all very exciting. Okay now back to work.

21:07 - :(
So I was at this amazing place taking some photos and I was changing lenses and I dropped my favorite lens the 85mm f/1.4 on the ground. The cap flew off I looked down fearing the worst I picked it up and my heart literally stopped. All I saw was a huge crack. I thought to myself "oh shit" well there is nothing you can do about it now...hang our head in shame and walk away. I sat down at a table and took a closer look fearing for the worst. Turns out I lucked out the UV filter took the bulk of the damage. The threaded ring that it screws into is a little bent and as such I can't unscrew the filter...but I am going to work on it. I will probably break the rest of the filter and then bend it or cut it away...straighten the ring and all will be good! At least I am only out $60 instead of the cost of the lens.

:(

16:43 - Sore and tired
I moved half of the 10 cubic yards of compost up the ramps to the backyard yesterday and I can't recall a time I recently slept better. I started this morning at 9:30 after carol made me a toast and egg breakfast and was done at 2:00. Man that was a ton of work. Now I am sore and tired but have to finish my design spec.

13:43 - Compost is here
I just had 10 yards of compost dumped in my driveway by a dump truck. He couldn't pull in because of a tree so it is covering the sidewalk. This morning I built a ramp up the stairs of the backyard. Now to get a butt load of newspaper and make a million trips with the wheel barell and start covering all my planters.

11:03 - To hell with grass!
I am conviced. No more grass for me! Now I just have to talk the wife into it. I think there are enough alternatives that meet her criteria (soft to walk around in, looks good) and my criteria (keeps weeds out, looks good, easy and cheap to maintain). I am thinking I am leaning towards clover. But there are some mixes out there that are appealing.

16:06 - Fingerprint phone
I moved into my new office and unpacked everything. Step one was to set up my phone. With the fingerprint identification it is the most secure thing I have. There is a new air hockey table too that is interesting because the goals are not in the rail like most...they are forward a little so that the puck can travel behind the goal, and the corners are rounded. Should be fun once they level it and add the puck and paddles.

20:58 - Great day for yard work
So I dug up all my grass. Well actually the sod cutter did it for me. But it is gone...well most of it there is still some on the edges that I will pull up with a shovel tomorrow. Now the question begs should I sod or should I plant seed. Seed is cheaper and you can mix variety however sod is nearly instantaneous and you have a new lawn. My yard isn't huge so it wouldn't be that big of a deal to sod or plant. I am a little concerned about walking on newly seeded grass so that would mean a month of not walking in the yard. But I can't find any reference to this online, so maybe I am making it up.

I woke up last night at 2am and couldn't go back to bed perhaps it was the moon perhaps something else but I laid in bed for an hour then got up and did my taxes. I was tempted to go outside and work under the moonlight but I have enough to do inside it wasn't a big deal

Speaking of sleep after wrestling with the sod cutter all day I am sore and tired and bruised. I should go to sleep but I think I am going to try to get some additional work done on my garage. Enjoy a beer and goto bed.

15:30 - Design by apathy
So we are currently designing a new product or rather a fresh design on an older product. One guy on the team is pretty opinionated and in the end it all comes down how long he pushes or until everyone is tired of it and say whatever. I just finished a training class on Design and this wasn't really discussed. So I am inventing "Design by apathy."

20:05 - Saltpeter
So I recently saw an episode of good eats that featured corn beef and cabbage. It is brined for 10 days in various spices and saltpeter. I guessed it would be hard but I knew it were anywhere it would be at the drug store. Sure enough AB went into a drug store and got some. So I tried the same...now I can understand them saying they didn't carry it because, you know it is one of three ingredients used to make gunpowder, but every pharmacist said "Whats that?" followed by jaw dropped stares when I explained its many uses. I guess I have to thank my dad for teaching me that. It is kind of strange the things you used to be able to get over the counter. I remember reading Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and was amazed that you used to be able to get that at the pharmacy.

I guess I will have find it online.

16:10 - Customer Disservice
I have this issue currently where one of my mortgage payments was lost. You see I have auto bill withdrawal set up with my bank that sends it to WaMu. The money was taken out of my account but WaMu never got it. Obviously something happened with the 3PC. So anyway I am trying to resolve this. Before it involved calling MaMu to find out what was wrong...then the bank to collect information...then WaMu again to figure out where to send the information. And investigation was opened. I get a letter in the mail saying they need more information. So that brings me to today. This is what the past hour or two of my life has been like.

Call Bank, hold, tell someone long back story, transfer me to different department, hold, talk to person who tells me they don't know what WaMu is looking for please clarify.
Call WaMu, hold, tell someone long back story, hold so they can ask around, tell me something that dosn't apply, hold again to ask around, give me some vague info.
Call bank, hold, tell someone long back story, transfer me to different department, hold, tell them what MaMu needs...they have no idea, hold, "open a case for full investigation"...told to call back Thursday.

It is like a blind deaf mute (me) trying to arrange a dinner date for two friends on opposite ends of the country and only doing so with morse code. Next time I talk to either of them I am going to get some direct contact that I can give the other so they can get it fixed. I mean what am I paying these people for?

14:21 - Park this people
So last night I went to a T-birds game with Carol, Zack and Marketa. I dropped Z&M off at Key Arena to get tickets. Then Carol and I went looking for parking. There was nothing anywhere. I was getting despearate and about to shell out cash at a pay lot when I saw it.
"Can you fit in there" Carol asked.
"I Can fit anywhere" I repiled
See I have this theory that people pull in next to the space and look back and to the front to size up if their car will fit. Because of paralax unless there is tons of space it will never look like you will fit. So I always try out the spot and have yet to be let down. So anyway I pulled up next to the car backed in for a good approach and backed the car in. Following a couple hundred back, turn the wheel, forward, turn the wheel, back etc I was in the spot. I got out to check my handywork and there was my car parked between these two with no more than 1 inch to the front and back. Literlly it was that tight. And my arm was killing me from all the wheel cranking. Anyway it was insane.
